On Friday, December 1, 2023, National Farmers’ Day, the working and committed farmers and fishermen of Ghana were honored by former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to him, the purpose of this day is to honor farmers for their contributions to our economy and guaranteeing food security.

According to him, the significance of innovation and resilience in agriculture is emphasized by this year’s topic, “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience.”

While we honor our farmers today, we also need to recognize that, in order to maintain sustainable food security for our country, we must find clever ways to operate in a 24-hour economy.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is committed to modernizing the agriculture industry and reviving the joy of farming. By implementing policies that encourage large-scale commercial agricultural production, we hope to attain food self-sufficiency. The National Democratic Congress flagbearer stated in a statement that “this will be propelled by a robust cooperative system that will benefit from Farmers Service Centers established nationwide to drive access to agricultural credit and inputs.”

“To add value to our agricultural products and create more opportunities for all farmers, we will introduce agro-processing units in all regions,” he continued. The establishment of agricultural processing facilities would focus on crops such cereals, ginger, spices, cut flowers, fruits, horticulture goods, palm, cashew, groundnuts, cotton, coffee, cocoa, soy, cassava, and gran nuts.

This time, I want to reassure our farmers that the incoming NDC administration will put their welfare first and work nonstop to make sure they have the tools and assistance they need to prosper. We will keep funding the prosperity of our farmers because they are the foundation of our economy. On this momentous day, I offer my sincere congratulations to all Ghanaian farmers.
