The great music producer Hammer of The Last Two has proposed an explanation for why businesses and the government don’t typically support the creative sector.
He claims that many people in the entertainment sector do not show that they are in need of assistance.
He said to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that these celebrities lead extravagant lives that are unworthy of others who are in need of financial support.
He went on to say that aside from music, the majority of these celebrities who own expensive cars have other sources of income.
They are not witnessing our agony. Our purchasing power for autos varies. We are showing off. It’s not common for those working in the creative [music] profession to use their earnings for car purchases.
What are you talking about if you are trading forex at home and you purchase an X Class, and you pull up in it and the tax man is staring at you? We must confront authority with the truth. Let’s let them know how miserable we are. But we can’t expect others to feel sympathy for us when we drive the biggest automobiles and buy at the priciest stores,” he remarked.
He went on to say that while some are doing this merely for show, it has consequences.
“If you wish to demonstrate how your creations are supporting the travel and tourism sector, do so. Show that you are a budding artist and that you are unable to acquire these items,” he continued.
Hammer’s remark followed calls from certain creatives for the government to provide tax breaks to creative enterprises in order to attract more capital to the system.
Hammer has declared the release of his new album, “Upper Echelon,” in the interim.
This project represents his first significant endeavor following his return to active music production, following a brief stint in the bread and juice industries.
