Ghanaian Highlife artist Kuami Eugene, a multiple award winner, has responded to remarks made by famous Reggae/Dancehall crooner Samini, dismissing his advise. Samini implied that Kuami Eugene’s lack of worldwide appeal stems from the fact that he “sounds local.”

Remember how Samini said he preferred Kidi to Kuami Eugene on TV3’s Day Show with Berla Mundi? It was because Kidi had a stronger global appeal.

The “Monica” hitmaker, meanwhile, doesn’t agree with that assessment.

When Kuami Eugene was asked if he would rebrand his craft to attract to larger foreign audiences in light of Samini’s remarks, he categorically answered that he would not do so during an appearance on a subsequent episode of the Day Show.

He claimed that in an attempt to sound more global, he would have to give up his true Highlife sound.

He continued by saying that while he respects Samini’s viewpoint, he would not follow any advice because songs featuring his genuine brand had already been hits on a global scale.
