Famous Highlife performer Ofori Amponsah, better known by his stage name Mr. All 4Real, has apologized for some of his well-known songs and said that hunger pushed him to record tracks he wasn’t happy with.
Ofori Amponsah said that, despite having a catalog of popular songs that included “Emmanuella,” “Otoolege,” “Sardine,” and numerous others, some of the recordings were made more out of need than true artistic inspiration.
The “Otoolege” hitmaker revealed that financial difficulties forced him to write songs that didn’t align with his creative values in an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz.
“In this music business, you sometimes have to do certain things to survive,” he clarified. I performed a few songs that were well-known throughout Ghana, but to be honest, I’m not proud of them because I was motivated to do them by hunger.
I wouldn’t have done those songs if my finances had been better back then; they weren’t something I wrote from the heart. However, I had to pay the expenses, which included school fees and energy payments, he revealed.
Ofori Amponsah, on the other hand, asserts that if a musician creates songs primarily for financial gain, they may produce a hit song that briefly gains traction, but the artist and the hit song will quickly fade into obscurity.
Musicians who prioritize their stomachs eventually lose their relevance. A great song may not be produced if a musician is constantly worried about how to get money to pay their expenses or take care of themselves.
He underlined the significance of writing music that originates from the heart, using hits like “Abele” as illustrations of classic, timeless compositions with enduring power.
