Ghanaian Samini has made statements regarding the combination of Azonto’s components to become Amapiano.
The multiple award-winning artist claims that Amapiano, a music style from South Africa, is a lot like Azonto, a music form from Ghana.
Speaking on Location FM in Cape Coast, he said, “We had Azonto, it was a wave and people were doing it across different countries as well, so it’s now past and gone.”
“If you do Azonto today and add a little bit here and there, someone will claim it’s Amapiano, but Amapiano is already South African.”
“Amapiano will always remain South African, so in the end, Ghana will be the connection you make with it after everyone tried with Azonto. Thus, Amapiano will have ties to South Africa, but Ghanaian music will always be Ghanaian music, he revealed on the program.
