Chris Hughton, the coach of the Black Stars, has been stripped of his duties by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) effective immediately.

The Ghana Football Association announced on its website on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, that Chris Hughton had been dismissed of his responsibilities as head coach of the senior National team effective immediately.

It further stated, “The Executive Council has decided to dissolve the Black Stars’ technical team.”

In the upcoming days, the Ghana Football Association promises to “provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”

Chris Hughton has already taken ownership of Ghana’s last-minute collapse against Mozambique, which prevented the Black Stars from making it out of another Africa Cup of Nations group round.

In the final Group B match of the season, the Stars lost a two-goal lead in the span of six minutes, resulting in a 2-2 tie with Mozambique at the Olympic Stadium in Abidjan on Monday night.

The outcome has put the stars in third place in the group with just two points, and they now urgently need a miracle to secure a spot among the top four third-place teams.

Hughton said, “I take responsibility for this performance and admit my results with the Black Stars have not been good enough,” during the news conference following the game.

However, he refrained from stepping down from his role.
