Black Queens lose to Namibia in the second leg, but they still make it to WAFCON 2024

After defeating Namibia on aggregate, the Black Queens will compete in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in five years.

On Tuesday, December 5, Ghana lost 1-0 in the second leg of their match against Namibia in Pretoria; nonetheless, their 3-1 victory in the first meeting was sufficient to secure a spot.

In addition, after 11 games in charge, this was Nora Hauptle’s first loss as head coach of the senior women’s national team.

In the first leg, the Swiss trainer started two different players: Stella Nyamekye and Ernestina Abambila replaced Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu.

After 21 minutes, Namibia scored the game’s first goal on a setpiece and had the better of the play throughout.

But the Queens controlled the game well, forcing the opposing team’s goalie, Cynthia Konlan, to make some good saves in the second half of the match.

Ultimately, even though Namibia prevailed on the day, there were tears shed for them; however, Ghana emerged victorious overall, securing a trip to Morocco.
