The Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual is being attempted to be broken by Ghanaian musician and businesswoman Afua Asantewaa Aduonum.
With an aim on spreading Ghanaian music worldwide, Asantewaa’s efforts feature a variety of styles, including gospel, highlife, and hiplife. She must follow the rigorous rules established by Guinness World Records and sing over 3,200 distinct Ghanaian songs without ever repeating one in order to accomplish this achievement. It’s a difficult and demanding work because each song needs to be played in under two minutes.
In about four hours, Sunil Waghmare, the current record holder, sang a wide variety of well-known Indian songs without stopping. This was done in Nagpur, India, between March 3 and 7, 2012. With this record broken, Asantewaa wants to make Ghanaian music known throughout the world.
Asantewaa has invited her supporters to try to join her in the marathon singing event, which is scheduled to take place in Ghana.
